Jim Hood – BP claims process violates law
MOBILE, Ala. — Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood continued Tuesday to assault the Gulf Coast Claims Facility, saying in a federal court filing that its activities violate federal and state law and again asking the judge to intervene in the claims process.
Claims czar Ken Feinberg, through a spokeswoman, declined to comment.
But today starts a two-week period in which Feinberg will take public critique on the guidelines he would use to calculate interim and final payments to the 130,000 people and businesses waiting for recompense.
U.S. District Court Judge Carl Barbier has already been asked, by both plaintiffs’ lawyers and Hood, to take an oversight role in the claims process. A ruling is expected this week.
