First time in history document has been read in House chamber
(Washington, D.C.) – Thursday, January 6th, Congressman Alan Nunnelee will participate in the reading of the Constitution on the house floor. As part of the new House rules package, Republicans will read the 4,543 word document aloud. The Constitution has never been read in its entirety on the house floor in the chamber’s 221year history.
“In order to face the challenges of today, we need to remember who we are as a nation and what we believe in,” said Nunnelee. “Our Constitution is that foundation and there is no better way to start this session of Congress than by reflecting on the principles and ideals that our great country was founded upon.”
“Republicans will make history this week by reading the Constitution on the house floor and I am honored to participate in this momentous event. I look forward to serving the first district of Mississippi in the 112th Congress – as we return to our roots and the framework that our founding fathers established,” concluded Nunnelee.
Congressman Alan Nunnelee represents Mississippi’s First Congressional District and will serve on the House Appropriations Committee. This is his first term.
