2011 Democratic Candidates For The Top Two Offices
Last week, I looked at a list of potential Democratic candidates for statewide offices including Attorney General, Auditor, Treasurer, Secretary of State, Insurance Commissioner and Agriculture Commissioner. Today, I wanted to look at potential- and confirmed- candidates for the top two jobs in the state: governor and lieutenant governor.
There are two obvious candidates for governor: Delta businessman Bill Luckett and Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree. They’re in, have been in for awhile, and have their full campaign operation moving right now. Because of this, it’d be pretty difficult for others to join them. The name of Bill Waller, Chief Justice on the state Supreme Court, has been thrown around. I would place the odds heavily against a run for Waller and even if he did we are not certain which party (if any) he would run with.
