DeSoto writes legislative wish list
With no visions of sugar plums dancing — but maybe a tax drain plugged and a road project or two opened on Miss. 305 — DeSoto’s Board of Supervisors delivered a pared-down, recession-wary wish list Monday to the county’s legislative delegation.
“This is probably one-tenth the size we got before,” state Rep. Wanda Jennings, R-Southaven, said of the 50-page binder that reflected DeSoto’s desire to refine its priorities to reflect reduced state revenues. What’s most do-able, she added, “is what won’t cost anything.”
For lawmakers, “there are three priorities in Jackson,” said state Sen. Merle Flowers, R-Olive Branch: “Jobs, jobs, jobs.” Requests that help recruit and retain jobs will get attention, “and DeSoto County can lead the way out of the recession,” he said.
