South Mississippians vie for Palazzo’s vacant seat
Biloxi real estate broker Jim Atchison and Casey Eure, storm/disaster coordinator for the Mississippi Public Service Commission, are among candidates vying to fill Steven Palazzo’s vacant state House seat.
Palazzo, R-Biloxi, was elected Nov. 2 to represent Mississippi’s 4th Congressional District, beating out longtime incumbent Gene Taylor, a conservative Democrat from Bay St. Louis, in a landmark election that reflected a Republican wave nationwide.
Gov. Haley Barbour has set a special election Jan. 11 to fill the Palazzo’s former seat in the Legislature.
