State cars, phones targeted for savings

JACKSON — State senators want to know why administrative assistants should be allowed to drive official vehicles to and from work and whether Mississippi’s public employees have too many taxpayer-funded mobile phones.

Some state agencies have 1.2 vehicles for every employee, and that could be too many, state Sen. Merle Flowers, R-Olive Branch, said Wednesday.

Some of those vehicles may be driven by people who have no need to take them home daily, he said.
