Wicker calls debt ‘generational theft’
U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker discussed his concerns about government expansion and what he calls the forgotten man at the Nov. 2 meeting of the Eupora Rotary Club.
Wicker, R-Miss, referenced “The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression,” a book by Amity Shlaes.
The book focuses on the Great Depression, and the senator said the title is reminiscent of the American citizens at the bottom of the economic pyramid in the current economy.
?“He works, he votes, generally he prays, but always he pays,” Wicker said.
Noting that the national debt has risen from $10 trillion to $13 trillion, Wicker said the forgotten man is his 7-month-old granddaughter because that debt will be passed on to her generation.
