The SEC and the BCS’ Dilemma With Cam Newton

The same is true of the BCS. Can you imagine the outrage that would ensue if Newton was ruled ineligible in the time between the setting of the title game matchup and the actual game? Keep in mind that’s five weeks. If you doubt what could happen in five weeks consider that it has been less than a week since this story initially broke.

The BCS absolutely, positively needs the matchup to work this season. Especially since if Oregon and Auburn were playing, you’d probably be screwing two undefeated teams out of a spot in the title game. If Oregon waxed a Newton-less Auburn and TCU or Boise State also waxed an opponent in another BCS bowl, it well might happen that there’s a split national title. The situation that the BCS was designed to end.
