Mississippi State contacted SEC office

On Tuesday, ESPN reported that Newton told Mississippi State recruiters that he chose Auburn over Mississippi State because “the money was too much.”

Here’s the full Mississippi State release, which almost seems to be taking up for the SEC at the end:
Mississippi State University acknowledges that it contacted the Southeastern Conference office in January of 2010 regarding an issue relating to its recruitment of Cam Newton.
