Secretary of State making rounds as election draws near
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) – As many Pine Belt counties get ready for an election that’ll include a write-in ballot, Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann is making sure any problems are addressed before they happen.
Hosemann was in Forrest County Wednesday afternoon meeting with election leaders to go over the process. Jasper, Simpson, Covington and Smith counties will be voting for a circuit judge by write-in while Marion, Lamar, Pearl River, Forrest and Perry counties will be voting for a chancery judge the same way.
Resolution boards will be set up in each county for anyone who happens to misspell a candidates name. That board will then decide what the intent of the voter was.
“I’m excited to see the campaign signs. As I drive around, write-in ballot this and cards our write-in my name, here’s how it works. I think we’re seeing Democracy work here. Nobody of course anticipated the death of these two very good judges, but now we’ve seen people start paying attention to their ballot and casting an intelligent vote for their judge and I think that’s the way it ought to be,” said Hosemann.
