STARKVILLE – It was a struggle, but Mississippi State avoided a letdown loss in its first outing as a ranked team in nine seasons.
A week after winning at Florida, the No. 24-ranked Bulldogs fought off UAB for a 29-24 homecoming win Saturday night. The 56,423 at Davis Wade Stadium – the fourth-largest crowd in stadium history – saw MSU win its fifth straight and become bowl eligible for the first time since 2007 and the second time since 2000.
