What’s happened to the Gators?
There are plenty of theories about what is wrong with the Gators and we examine several of them.
4. The Recruiting Theory.
For all of the accolades that Meyer and his staff have received for their recruiting rankings, how is it that Florida has so few playmakers? Well, because rankings don’t always result in great classes. There have been some misses and some busts over the last three years. Sometimes, you can’t help but wonder how many players were signed for their rankings on Rivals instead of whether they’d be good fits. Still, there is plenty of talent at Florida. That’s where you go back to evaluation of a player’s abilities to be a teammate. We saw in the preseason that there was friction between the true freshmen and the veterans when Mike Pouncey called them out. There seemed to be a sense of entitlement among the newcomers. Some have left. Some will leave. And there is certainly a vibe on this team — whether it be from Tweets, quotes or actions on the field — that not all the players are all in. Meyer alluded to it after the LSU loss when he said not all the players were giving their all.
