Roger Wicker warns of more Gulf oil regulation
A Republican senator from one of the Gulf states doesn’t think it means much that the Obama administration has lifted its moratorium on deepwater drilling.
Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker says lifting the drilling ban in the Gulf of Mexico does little but show how “inefficient big government bureaucracies” can be in dealing with disasters like the BP oil spill.
“For example, they talk about this is a pair of ‘interim final regulations.’ Now, I don’t know what an interim final regulation is except an oxymoron, but it’s clear that there are going to be some further regulatory documents coming down,” he warns. “So we don’t know what the regulations will actually be.”
Wicker points out to American Family Radio’s Focal Point program that there has been no moratorium on shallow water drilling, yet the administration has “slow-walked those permits,” bringing about a 90 percent drop. As a result, more than just the Gulf states are impacted.
