After latest Urban Meyer, Gators defeat, my apologies to Mississippi
I wrote a stupid thing during all of the conference expansion and contraction talks over the summer. I wrote that the big boys in the Southeastern Conference should consider booting Ole Miss and Mississippi State from the league and splitting the massive amount of revenue 10 ways instead of 12. “Would anybody even notice?” I wrote.
Actually, in hindsight, somebody would notice. The Florida Gators would notice. They would notice because they wouldn’t have the Mississippi schools to kick their Gator tails anymore.
For a sportswriter from Florida to write what I wrote a couple of months ago just seems wrong. Especially in the wake of Mississippi State’s SEC slobber-knocking 10-7 victory over the Gators Saturday on Florida’s homecoming. It was the Gators’ first home loss to Mississippi State since 1965 and marked the first time UF has lost three consecutive regular season games since 1988.
