MAJORITY – Is Childers distancing himself from Bill Clinton

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 14, 2010

Miss. Dems Look More Excited For Clinton Than Childers

“President Bill Clinton will join Congressman Travis Childers TOMORROW, Thursday, October 14 at 11:30 a.m. CT for a “Get Out the Vote” rally at the University of Mississippi. Congressman Childers and President Clinton will speak to young voters to encourage them to cast their ballots on November 2nd. The event is open to the public and admission will be free.”

A spokesman for the Childers campaign told the AP explicitly that this visit “is not to endorse Childers but to energize young Democrats,” and the headline of that story completely leaves out Childers’ name.

The Mississippi Democratic Party, on the other hand, worded their announcement like this:

“President Bill Clinton will be at The Grove on the Ole Miss campus for a special Get Out The Vote Rally. Both President Clinton and Congressman Childers will address the crowd, encouraging young voters to vote for Congressman Childers on Tuesday, Nov. 2.”

The Oxford Democratic Party said this:

“Tomorrow from 11am until 1pm. Former President Bill Clinton will there to meet and greet and discuss why he is supporting Congressman Travis Childers for reelection. Please everyone come out to meet him.”

So the state party (and the local Oxford chapter) want this to relate to Clinton’s support for Childers. Childers, it appears, not so much.
