Palazzo, Taylor square off in House election

BILOXI — Twenty-one-year incumbent Democratic U.S. House Rep. Gene Taylor says he’s brought billions of dollars worth of work and jobs to South Mississippi and stood up for people’s rights against big insurance. His opponent, Republican state Rep. Steven Palazzo, says Taylor has been ineffective in Congress and has lost touch with the people he serves.

“Twenty-one years is a long time to accomplish anything you want to accomplish,” said Palazzo, in his fourth year in the state Legislature. “If you’re not being effective after 21 years and not to the point where you’re a leader on the issues, then it’s time you’re replaced.”

Taylor said: “The state budget is about $6 billion. At this very moment, Northrop Grumman has $5 billion in contracts to sign, in addition to the work they already had, because of my work.”
