Not much bite for Florida, with on-field struggles and off-field issues
KNOXVILLE – Pre-game traffic, you see a little bit of everything. Flags flapping wildly from windows. Magnetic signs attached to tailgates. Crepe-paper fringe hanging out from trunk lids, like a country singer’s mullet dangling from a cowboy hat.
Driving here Friday, an enormous white SUV with Florida tags passed me. On the doors, a metal sign read “Gators.” The letters couldn’t have been more than five inches high. It might as well have been a Band-Aid on the side of an ocean liner.
Many fans’ vehicles scream their allegiance.
