Rebs seek surge in running game

Most of those came in the season opener against Jacksonville State. The Rebels (1-1) failed to crack the 100-yard mark for the first time since last year’s Egg Bowl loss in a 92-yard performance at Tulane.

Heading into Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt (0-2, 0-1 SEC), UM coach Houston Nutt is counting on his runners to provide more to help create balance.

“It falls back on the running game,” Nutt said Monday. “We want to be able to run the ball better. You do that, now, and it’s the best of both worlds. You can do many more things. You can even do more formations.”
