South Carolina-Georgia winner will rise in SEC East
Any recent drama in the SEC East Division’s history has revolved around second place. Florida’s superior talent and letdowns at the five other schools made the 2008 and 2009 Gators near locks for the top spot.
But Week No. 1 of 2010 hinted at a changing of the guard. Florida’s lethargic offense — eight fumbles (three lost) and 212 total yards — showed the team was not ready for the top 10. Georgia and South Carolina, picked as bridesmaids again this year, both impressed in blowout victories. Add the two, and maybe there’s room for a new division king.
With that, the Bulldogs visit to South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday afternoon becomes the biggest game of the week down south. The every-September game rarely lacks excitement, with four of the last five meetings being decided by seven points or fewer. This year, though, the winner becomes a true contender for first in the SEC East, not just first runner-up.
