Supposed UNC breakout season begins amid turmoil

The ongoing probe comes a little more than a month after the school and NCAA began looking into whether defensive lineman Marvin Austin and wide receiver Greg Little received alleged impermissible benefits from agents. It’s not known how many players might be held out Saturday because of the academic investigation, or if Austin or Little will play.
The team didn’t release a depth chart Monday before Davis’ weekly news conference, a departure from normal procedure. School officials have said they might not know about the players until game time, forcing Davis to use a “fluid” informal depth chart in practice this week.
But with an imposing schedule bearing down on Carolina right from the start, there’s not much room for error or experimentation. After taking next week off, the Heels will host defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion and 17th-ranked Georgia Tech in the second game, then travel to Rutgers.
