The split practices don’t count twice under NCAA regulations, because the players are only practicing once.

“The older guys picked up where we left off at, but you know we had some young guys,” senior defensive end Pernell McPhee said. “That’s the reason we had them out there, to help them out.”

Largely, players seemed to deal well with the day’s oppressive heat. The morning group worked out for almost three hours starting at 8:30 a.m., and the afternoon group, well, it got lucky.
