Is that it for college football expansion?
The Pac-10 is the biggest loser because it took the biggest gamble. It could’ve controlled college football in the Sun Belt if it pulled off a Texas-Oklahoma coup.
The relative lack of movement wasn’t as much cold feet as it was cold reality. Texas reaffirmed itself as the big dog or, in this instance, the big steer. It’s the biggest winner because it got what it wanted. The Longhorns are the primary powerbroker in college athletics — not university presidents, not the BCS cartel, not the Big Ten Conference. Texas could’ve triggered a seismic realignment but instead offered the wheezing Big 12 Conference an oxygen mask.
