Bounds honored by All-American Football Foundation
Bo Bounds was among several honorees recognized by the All-American Football Foundation (AAFF) at its 104th Champions Dinner, held Monday night, June 7, at the Jackson Hilton. The AAFF includes 199 collegiate members, 17 collegiate conference members and 17 Football Bowl Association members.
Bounds received the Lindsey Nelson Sportscaster Award, which was created by AAFF in Nelson’s honor, to recognize excellence in sports broadcasting. Nelson, a Hall of Fame broadcaster, had and extensive and illustrious career in which he called the Cotton Bowl Classic (25 years), Notre Dame football, the New York Mets and the San Francisco Giants.
Bounds has been hosting “Out of Bounds,” a fast-paced, irreverent sports and entertainment show, since November of 2003. The show has developed a strong and loyal fan base of listeners due to its emphasis on the nation’s premier sports conference (the SEC), and the finer aspects of southern culture (great food, attractive people, great music and excellent weather). According to Bounds, “the show is really a celebration of Southern culture with an emphasis on what we do the best and love the most – SEC sports. These common interests make up the “Yall Lifestyle“ that we talk about so often on the show.”
After more than five (5) years of broadcasting the morning segment on Supersport 930, Bo was asked to bring his show over to the all new (and only) 50,000 watt FM station, ESPN 105.9 The Zone, in July of 2009. The show is the leading morning drive-time radio show in the area, and features entertaining line ups of guests and commentators, including athletes, coaches, musicians, administrators, heads-of-sate, and nationally-syndicated journalists.
The show has broadcast from the College World Series, The Grammy Museum in LA, the SEC Football championship, the SEC basketball championship, New Orleans for Saints and Hornets and Games, Ole Miss, MSU and more. As a complement to the show, Bo and business partner Alan Lange, publish the online sports dashboard known as Yallsports.com, which maintains a loyal following as well.
Bo grew up traveling the SEC to various sports venues with his Dad and developed a lifelong passion for sports. These experiences ultimately fueled his interest in discussing sports for a living, a calling for which Bo is continuing to gain regional and national acclaim. “To receive an award that is named after Mr. Nelson is an awesome and humbling accomplishment. The team we have put together at ESPN 105.9 is second to none in the SEC. I would like to thank the All-American Football Foundation for this honor. Covering the best league in the land on an everyday basis is a dream come true.”
If you would like to join the legions of listeners celebrating the YALL Lifestyle, dial-in to FM 105.9 from 7:00 to 10:00, or via internet at the thezone1059.com.
