SEC examines Memphis venues for baseball, basketball tournaments

Southeastern Conference officials were in Memphis today touring a pair of venues that would mean a shorter trip for fans of Mississippi’s SEC schools to league championships.

Memphis, with its FedExForum arena, is among six cities bidding to host the 2015 SEC men’s basketball tournament. Memphis is also attempting to woo the SEC baseball tournament to AutoZone Park when its contract with Regions Park in Hoover, Ala., expires after the 2011 tournament.

SEC officials Chuck Dunlap and Craig Mattox toured the facilities today with representatives of the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau, and both said they were impressed.
