Brumfield – Chamber of Commerce award goes to Travis Childers
Folks who know more about politics than I do say something interesting just went under the radar for Mississippi’s 1st District House race.
As you recall from previous hot political races, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce often comes in here with big money to fight what it considers to be anti-business, non-conservative candidates. Sometimes its money and TV power are difference-makers.
Chiefly, as a candidate, if you had your druthers, you’d prefer not to have the Chamber against you.
Looks like incumbent Democrat Rep. Travis Childers of Booneville is on its good list, just in time for a likely wild re-election fight in November.
The Chamber just presented him, along with most of Mississippi’s Senate and House delegation, including Gene Taylor, (not Bennie Thompson, no surprise) with its prestigious “Spirit of Enterprise” award – given annually to members of Congress based on rankings it gives for key business votes outlined in its yearly publication, How They Voted. This is the twenty-second year that the U.S. Chamber has formally honored the accomplishments of this select group of members of Congress.
