Can NCAA make football postseason as irrelevant as basketball regular season?

The problem is, the NCAA doesn’t sell it that way to a public that continues to pay higher ticket prices and puts up with inconvenient television start times. Silly us, we thought coaches were getting all that money because winning championships mattered.
We care passionately about the NCAA Basketball Tournament because we understand the point is to declare a national champion.
We only care about the vast majority of college football bowl games if our favorite team happens to be in one, or the game is happening in our home town, or it’s December and we’re just hankering to sit down and watch a college football game.
