In Mississippi, the Egg Bowl rivalry never dies — even in a spring attendance

Take away the significance of the number, though, and you’ll still find quite an impressive feat for Mississippi State. This year, State announced 34,217. Last year, State announced 31,606. Both were in Dan Mullen-led spring games, and both were marketed and promoted by State’s staff like never before. (Neither crowd count was to-the-body specific, obviously, but both were at least somewhat reasonable based on estimates.) Two years ago, when Sylvester Croom’s final team battled to a scoreless tie — a scoreless tie — in the spring game and had to go to overtime, and estimated 6,000 were there.
