Tea Party tax protest today in Hernando will scald Childers
A gathering of candidates critical of U.S. Rep. Travis Childers, D-Miss., and congressional spending will pour out their views at a ”Tax Day” rally today in Hernando organized by the Tea Party of Mississippi.
The rally, from 3 to 6 p.m. on the Courthouse lawn downtown, was slated on the deadline for filing federal tax returns ”to protest outrageous taxes proposed by President Obama and passed by radical members of Congress,” said Bill Ford, a Tea Party activist. The 63-year-old retiree lives in Como.
”They work for us, the people, but they don’t relate that to their actions,” said Ford. In particular he cited Childers’ vote for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, referred to as TARP, the multibillion-dollar bailout program to purchase assets and equity from troubled financial institutions amid the recession.
