Barbour signs meth bill into law
Gov. Haley Barbour signed House Bill 512, moving forward a measure that will restrict use of medicines that contain pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient in manufacturing methamphetamine.
The law, going into effect in July, will require prescriptions for people wanting to purchase decongestants like Zyrtec D and Sudafed D.
“We are serious about reducing the use of methamphetamine in our state,” Barbour said in a news release. “This law is another tool for law enforcement to fight illegal drugs and protect our communities. Meth use is a problem all over the nation, and I’m proud Mississippi can lead the way in battling this drug that damages lives.”
The law enforcement community heralded this bill, saying it will decrease meth use.
