Sidney faces unethical conduct charge
MSU won’t say if it will appeal or accept charge, then request that freshman be ruled eligible
STARKVILLE – The long, winding road that is Mississippi State basketball player Renardo Sidney’s quest for eligibility appears to have more mileage in it
Attorney Donald Jackson said the NCAA has charged Sidney with unethical conduct based on his responses in interviews to questions about a trip to California in 2006. On Thursday, Jackson said State has two options: appeal it, which would likely drag the case out, or accept the findings and ask that Sidney, a 6-foot-10 freshman who has yet to play this season, be allowed to play.
Jackson called the options “untenable.”
The decision on whether to appeal is State’s.
Jackson said he didn’t know what State will do. Bracky Brett, MSU’s associate athletic director for compliance, wouldn’t comment.
More was learned Thursday about the case as Jackson made public the NCAA’s findings on Sidney and a fact-finding committee’s arbitration of the findings that were disputed by State.
