Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez is a master of closing the deal
It might be the most impressive thing Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez has done in his two-year tenure.
When signing days approach — this year it’s Wednesday — he’s able to take his class from good to impressive nearly every time.
Often that comes at the expense of other schools, some who have oral commitments from prospects Michigan is trying to land.
In his first year at Michigan, Rodriguez landed receiver Roy Roundtree, who was committed to Purdue; offensive lineman Ricky Barnum, who pledged Florida; and tailback Michael Shaw, who was supposed to attend Penn State.
All were four-star prospects or higher. Receiver Martavious Odoms also joined the class, though a few days after Signing Day.
