MS Digital Daily – Philadelphia mayor honored at annual Congress of Racial Equality dinner in NYC

Young was honored as a symbol of the change in Mississippi. Despite the fact that this is the city where three CORE volunteers were murdered in 1964, Philadelphia has chosen to vote a black man as mayor – even with a white majority population. Steele was chosen as a symbol of how the Republican Party is looking to expand their “big tent” of politics. Leidesdorf is a descendant of William Leidesdorf, a black Jewish man who is known as the founder of California.
