Gov. Haley Barbour announced Friday that he planned to make additional across-the-board cuts to the current 2009-2010 budget, including an additional 3.1 percent cut or another $75.4 million cut to funding for the state’s kindergarten through 12th grade systems.
Of that amount, $66.1 million is to the K-12 or Mississippi Adequate Education Program, also known as MAEP.
“We think it’s going to cost us another $4 million,” DeSoto County Assistant Superintendent of Education Ken Reid said Friday. “That will put a total of cuts we’ve experienced this year at about $10 million. This year and last year will total about $13 million in cuts.”
