Let’s see if I’ve got this straight.

Lane Kiffin goes 7-6 in his one sea­son as a college football head coach, giving him a 12-21 career record. Derek Dooley goes 4-8 last year, giving him a 17-20 career record as a head coach. And both are rewarded with two of the better jobs in college football.
I guess it’s true what they say, that what you’ve done is not nearly as impor­tant as who you know.
Meanwhile, if the panic-stricken reso­lution to the coaching searches at South­ern California and Tennessee taught us anything, it’s that it’s not as easy to hire a coach as most of us think.
