Lane Kiffin To USC; NCAA Licking Chops at Irony of Hiring

In addition, recruiting coordinator Ed Oregorn will follow the Kiffin family to Southern California. If true, Oregorn will be critical in keeping together the waivering current Trojan recruiting class.

From 2001 to 2006, Kiffin held a position on the USC staff. Throughout his career, he has shown great promise sprinkled with risk.

With potential NCAA sanctions looming, including a meeting with the NCAA around February 19th, this hire will raise more than a few eyebrows.

Why would a program being watched so closely hire the king of secondary violations as Pete Carroll’s successor to the throne at USC?

Kiffin, a great recruiter, a successful football coach, and a highly-energized coach, is known around college football for his outlandish comments and his recruiting violations.

Remind you, these violations came after only one year at the helm of the Volunteer program. All in a year, Kiffin called out national champion-Urban Meyer, the SEC conference, and the NCAA.

Now, the Committee gets a chance to not only punish an elite football program accused of cheating in the cases of Reggie Bush and Joe McKnight, but a coach known to have an already rocky relationship with the NCAA.

Who knows-maybe Mike Garrett will allow Kiffin to run through a fog machine before his introductory press conference.
