With so much controversy swirling about what led to Monday’s suspension of Texas Tech head football coach Mike Leach, the university’s response to sports-related concussions could soon be under scrutiny.
One former player is insisting Leach’s treatment of players with head injuries is both fair and safe.
But one neurosurgeon has questioned some of the concussion-response policies used not only at Tech, but by most coaches and athletes.
The university suspended Leach on Monday after receiving a complaint from the parents of Tech receiver Adam James that the coach ordered their son to spend two practices standing for hours in a dark building near the practice field while suffering from a concussion.
In a statement released Monday by James’ mother and father, ESPN analyst Craig James, they accused Leach of subjecting their son “to actions and treatment not consistent with common sense rules for safety and health.”
