Recapping the highs and lows from the college football weekend
It was another eventful weekend in college football. Here’s a look at all the highs and lows from the action across the country.
Two more step for TCU. The Horned Frogs were expecting a tough game from Utah, which had won 22 of 23 games entering their Mountain West showdown in Fort Worth. It was over before halftime as Gary Patterson’s team jumped to a 35-7 lead in the second quarter and cruised home in the final major obstacle on their path to a BCS at-large berth. All that’s left on the schedule is a trip to Wyoming and a home game against winless New Mexico. TCU has established a decent margin on Boise State in the BCS standings, so unless the polls and computers change in the coming two weeks, two wins should do the trick.
Almost for Iowa. The cards seemed stacked against Iowa with freshman quarterback James Vandenberg starting at Ohio State with the Big Ten title and a likely trip to the Rose Bowl on the line. But the Hawkeyes showed the amazing resiliency that had them unbeaten before last week’s loss to Northwestern. It started with Vandenberg, who performed well after struggling against the Wildcats when replacing Ricky Stanzi. And even down 14 points in the fourth quarter, Iowa was able to force overtime before a disastrous possession left the Buckeyes in a need of only a field goal to win the game.
