McNair, Jr. chooses Southern Miss

The McNair legacy will continue in college football.

Steve McNair, Jr.–son of former NFL quarterback Steve McNair–has committed to Southern Miss and will sign with the Golden Eagles in February of next year, the Hattiesburg American reported. He is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound wide receiver out of Oak Grove (Hattiesburg, Miss.).

In an otherwise tragic year, following the murder of his father, recruiting has been something positive for the younger McNair to focus on. Scholarship offers have flooded in all year from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Minnesota, Nebraska, West Virginia and Tulsa, just to name a few.

“I just wanted to give my family a chance to watch my games,” McNair told the newspaper. “I wanted to stay close to home and I loved the Southern Miss campus … I felt good about (Southern Miss coach Larry Fedora). I think he’s going to do whatever it takes to win. I’m looking forward to playing for him.”
