Charles Scott key to LSU run attack

BATON ROUGE, La. | Charles Scott is the same running back today as he was a year ago, when he ran for two touchdowns to lead a 201-yard team rushing effort by LSU against the University of Alabama defense.

He’s the same, but his numbers aren’t.

LSU’s starting tailback passed on the chance to make an early jump to the National Football League last year, and returned to LSU with the intention of playing for a championship.

Mission accomplished. LSU travels to Alabama on Saturday with the Southeastern Conference’s West division in its reach. But while the team goal remains intact, Scott hasn’t been the dominant presence he was a year ago.

“We rushed it better, and our guys came off the football and guys understood the calls,” LSU coach Les Miles said after a 42-0 thrashing of Tulane on Saturday. “I think Charles Scott wants to have a great year and certainly looks for the opportunity to have big runs and he did that.”
