Floridians, Georgians cross enemy lines in rivalry
ATHENS, Ga. – They come from down near the beaches of Fort Lauderdale, up by the First Coast and from over on the West Coast.
They might be Florida born and raised, but they up and left the Sunshine State for the red clay of Georgia to wear the Bulldogs’ red and black.
“I wanted to get out of the state,” said fifth-year senior defensive tackle Jeff Owens, who is from Sunrise. “Florida had a new coaching staff coming in, so you didn’t know what to expect. I went with someone that I knew would be committed and had a long tradition here, and I loved Georgia.”
