SEC coaches expecting stronger season in basketball

BIRMINGHAM — SEC basketball coaches, players and fans are ready to put last season in the rear-view mirror, and a more experienced league should help.
While seven teams had at least 20 wins a year ago, only three — Mississippi State, Tennessee and LSU — earned a spot in the NCAA tournament. The Road to the Final Four was a short one for the trio: a total of four games played.
A new season and some new faces have brought a renewed confidence.
“I think the league is going to have seven or eight NCAA tournament teams,” first-year Kentucky coach John Calipari said Thursday at SEC Basketball Media Day.
