Tommy Tuberville has his eye on UCF coaching situation

Psst, have you heard? If George O’Leary leaves UCF in the not-too-distant future, I know of at least one big-name coach who would at least be mildly intrigued by the job. A source close to Tommy Tuberville tells me that the former Auburn coach has kept an interested eye on UCF because he believes he could recruit successfully, win big almost immediately and perhaps help escort the Knights into a BCS league. Personally, I believe Tuberville will get a much bigger job before UCF ever opens it.

And this is why O’Leary needs to get on a roll and start winning and winning consistently: Because it’s never good when your replacement is being discussed before you’re even gone. It’s no secret UCF fans, boosters and even administrators are growing restless with O’Leary’s inconsistent, uninspiring program. O’Leary said earlier this week that he doesn’t read message boards, and it’s a good thing. There are more than 2,000 members of a new Facebook group entitled “Make [UF defensive coordinator] Charlie Strong UCF’s next head coach.” If, for some reason, O’Leary does leave, here are the first three calls I would make if I were UCF Athletic Director Keith Tribble: (1) Charlie Strong, (2) Tuberville, (3) Terry Bowden. …
