STEPS protests Obama snub of Coast during New Orleans visit
Members of the STEPS Coalition congregated with other protesters on the University of New Orleans Lakefront campus across the street from where President Barack Obama is set to hold a town hall this afternoon.
Members of the group, which is upset that the president didn’t include South Mississippi on the trip billed today as one to the Hurricane Katrina-affected zones, stood holding signs that said “The Recovery Isn’t Over, Mississippi Will Not Be Forgotten.” Members of the group had registered to gain access to the town hall, which is expected to draw a large crowd, but none received a ticket.
“We’re disappointed no one got in,” said Roberta Avila, executive director of the STEPS Coalition.
