C.L. – Insurance shouldn’t deny abused because they are supposed “high risks”
Mississippi is one of eight states in which it is legal for insurance companies to deny coverage to victims of domestic violence on the basis that such victimization makes a potential insured “high risk.”
Talk about being victimized twice! This is wrong and Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney and the Mississippi Legislature should take steps immediately to rectify this highly objectionable and sexist status.
Victims of domestic violence are just that – victims. They should not be treated any differently in qualifying for insurance coverage than anyone else.
