DailyLeader – MDOT flap shows need for meeting law upgrades

The latest flare-up in the ongoing flap between members of the Mississippi Transportation Commission reinforces the need for change when something is not working.
The change needed now is stronger laws regarding Mississippi’s open meetings.

In the current episode, Central District Transportation Commissioner Dick Hall cried open meetings foul – and the state Ethics Commission agreed – over being left out of a dinner-time gathering in which fellow transportation commissioners Wayne Brown from the south and Bill Minor from the north met in August with MDOT Executive Director Butch Brown and others regarding a Rankin County interchange project. To use a transportation term, Minor and Wayne Brown ‘bypassed’ Hall to discuss a project in his own district!
