Special election set for Micheal Janus’ seat

Gov. Haley Barbour has set a special election for Nov. 17 to fill the seat former State Rep. Michael Janus recently vacated to become D’Iberville’s city manager.
The deadline to qualify for the election will be Oct. 18, and if a runoff is necessary, it would be held Dec. 8. Candidates in special elections aren’t identified by party affiliations on the ballot.
Three potential candidates to replace Janus quickly emerged when he announced late last month he would step down. Former Gulfport state Sen. Bob Usey, Gulfport’s Patrick Collins, who ran against Janus in 2003 and 2007, and Scott DeLano, a Biloxi developer, are all interested in the seat. Other names may emerge as the qualifying deadline approaches.
