QBs Stafford, Cutler: 2 of a kind?
About seven months ago, the Lions were linked to quarterback Jay Cutler. They reportedly tried to swing a three-way deal that would have sent the 33rd pick in the NFL draft to New England for quarterback Matt Cassel, then trade Cassel to Denver for Cutler.
It didn’t work. And worse — in the minds of a lot of Lions fans at the time — Cutler landed in Chicago, affecting the balance of power in the NFC North.
Cutler faces the Lions today at Soldier Field. But the Lions will start Cutler-like quarterback Matthew Stafford, the No. 1 pick in the draft, who they hope will be as good or better in the long run.
