Virginia Tech carries flag for ACC
BLACKSBURG, Va. — The buzz around seventh-ranked Virginia Tech is this could be the program’s most talented team since 1999, when the Hokies played for the national championship. Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford fervently hopes so.
Virginia Tech will be carrying more than the fate of Hokie Nation on Saturday when it opens the 2009 season in the Georgia Dome against No. 5 Alabama. Tech also will be waving the ACC banner, looking to strike an early blow for a league that has become an afterthought in the national title conversation.
