Bidders assume debt on late mayor’s properties
An out-of-state company assumed the tax debt on the Jackson home of late Mayor Frank Melton on Wednesday – the third day of Hinds County’s annual tax sale.
Meanwhile, Madison and Rankin counties completed their tax sales around midday Wednesday. Hinds County’s sale could extend into next week, said Eddie Fair, tax collector.
Counties hold their annual tax sales on the last Monday in August. The deadline for paying overdue taxes was 5 p.m. Friday.
If a delinquent property owner didn’t hit that target, the parcel was put up for auction on Monday.
