What we learned: QB battle obscures USC’s other problems

The man of Troy
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a quarterback.

Now I can let everyone in on a little secret: The issues at USC go way beyond who will play quarterback. Now that freshman Matt Barkley has been named starter for the season opener against San Jose State, it’s time to look at the reality facing the most successful team this decade.
The defense is completely rebuilt, and this team will play four huge road games with either a true freshman quarterback (Barkley) or a sophomore (Aaron Corp) who has never started a game or taken a meaningful snap. I still believe Corp will eventually win the job when he’s completely healthy, but all this contrived quarterback controversy has accomplished is to hide a more significant flaw.
